Imagine you are stable, evenly-balanced, going calm, and everything seems fine. What could possibly happen to disturb your peace? What makes you go into depression or mania if there is an event?

For me, it is family relationships, all the junk you hate when it pops its head up - old patterns, etc., especially with a sibling since they know how to jerk your chain.

That one, for sure.

Anything that blindsides me- that feels like a betrayal, even if unintended, which it usually is.

It surprises me how easily I'm knocked off centre, when at the time I feel so strong. Resilience is paper-thin I think. My tdoc doesn't want me to join her skills training group yet b/c of this.

good question, Rosebud

Family relationships would be at the top of my list too.

When work becomes too intense.

When changes are happening either at work or in my personal life that I feel I have no control over.

The most recent thing for me was having my therapy cut off.....cold turkey. Long story, can't go into any details....but it has messed me up very badly.

Triggers - Mainly thinking too much about life. Fear of something that I'm not confident about. Arguing about things I should just stay away from. Sometimes it's just a song.

Work is the big thing for me - being given responsibilities but not given the support needed to get them done. Then criticized if I fall behind.

My children also have the ability to throw me for a loop, but not my siblings; they're well compartmentalized.

Negative trigger, pushing me to depression..... being ignored or feeling left out

Positive, pushing me to mania... anything positive at all. The start of something new

In a nutshell... stress. Any kind of stress, although my mother seems particularly able to send me over the precipice.

I had to back away from her a year ago... my sanity depends on it.

I was watching Driving Miss Daisy and the last scene she is being fed by her driver. She looked so much like my mom at that stage than I had to leave the room and cried for an hour. This weekend I went to my nephew's wedding and I missed her being there so I had a little too much wine at the reception and ended up back in my room locked in the bathroom crying.

I really wish I had no children. When I think of how much I miss her, I feel bad that I will die in the future and my children will be this sad.

I can understand the sentiment, but I also think that your children will be happier that you chose to bring them in to this world. I miss my parents (and grandparents) and son, but the good memories I have of them far outweigh the times I'm despondant over losing them.

Lately what makes me react to a very serious level:

Cell phone companies
People who use cell phones while driving
Completely rude and inconsiderate people
People who have no regard or respect for the disabled or elderly

I really could pull someone out of their car ... I have told my pdoc. There is a thing such as "righteous indignation" when it is about something that is wrong, and just being angry to be angry. Of course, doing something physical or damaging about anything is wrong. So, I go home and scream.
